Book Review: Middle School: How I survived Bullies,Brocolli and Snake hiil

Hello Page Turners!

5144l6PFm0L._SX339_BO1,204,203,200_My daughter finished another book. Here’s her review!

This Book was about a boy named Rafe. He is going to a camp named Snake Hill. He stays in a cabin with a bunch of people. Booger Eater is one of his friends.
I feel that Rafe is starting to learn how to be nice and caring and NOT break the rules. I rate this book five stars because this book shows you how to have fun but what to do when people call you or one of your friends names.

My Notes: I love that my daughter reads. Reading is so important for our children! Stay tuned for tomorrow as I talk about this subject on our Sunday Discussion.

Book Review; The Fix

Hello Page Turners!

51SYwIJDjML._SY346_Got a new review for you.

I finished The Fix the other day. This is the third book in the Amos Decker series by David Baldacci. This story started off, fast and crazy! A young woman gets shot in the back of the head right in front of the FBI building in Virginia. Of course, there to witness this horrific scene is none other than Amos Decker. The shooter, after killing the woman, turns the gun on himself. The story follows a rich family, a couple who has raised four daughters. They seem happy with their lives. But the eyes can be misleading.

Amos and his special task force are immediately put on the case. They can’t seem to figure out why this man would kill this woman. It doesn’t seem like they even know each other. It isn’t until hidden lifestyles are revealed that cause Amos and his team to take a closer look not only at the family, but the woman killed in front of the FBI building.

Other forces are “forced” in to help solve this case. It isn’t until the end of the book that twists and turns began to surface. Amos and his colleagues are forced to handle this case with care and try to stay alive. They have no idea what they’ve walked into but Amos and his team won’t give up until they find out why a man simply walks up to a woman, kills her, then turns the gun on himself. Lots of things don’t add up and you can guarantee Amos and his brilliant mind will figure this out.

This story is filled with lies, deceit, gambling and secrets. It was definitely a page turner. However, I did not like how the ending came together. The way that this story was laid out, an innocent woman is killed in broad daylight in front of the FBI building, that storyline is a page turner waiting to happen. But as the story progressed, I was a little annoyed to find out exactly why she was killed and what was going on behind it. I was very interested in the family secrets. You could tell the minute Amos and his team met the family that they were hiding something, but where the real culprit lies, I didn’t see it coming. And the reason behind what they did…I just didn’t like.

Overall, it was a well-written story and I LOVE this series. I am finally all caught up on this series. Can’t wait to read the next book when it’s released.

I gave this one Four Stars

Book Review: The Medical Examiner

Hello Page Turners!

51Ceuj2mssL._SX355_BO1,204,203,200_I just finished another James Patterson book and it was a page turner!

The Medical Examiner is a Bookshot from the Women’s Murder Club. About a year ago, James Patterson decided to come out with these books that are 150 pages or less that gives us book addicts the thrill of his work without it being a full novel. These books can be read within a few hours. (I’m not sure why he didn’t think of this before) So he released a story under Bookshot that is apart of the Women’s Murder Club.

If you aren’t familiar with the Women’s Murder Club, this series is about four female friends that are apart of different areas in law enforcement that come together to solve cases. James Patterson is sixteen books into the series. There have been a lot of ups and downs throughout this series. Nonetheless, these ladies come together throughout each book to talk about the case(s) at hand. Lindsay Boxer is the main character. In the Medical Examiner, she goes out of town so she’s not active in this book. Readers read about her maybe three times throughout the whole story. This is a first for James Patterson. Lindsay usually carries the whole book, however, he’s built such strong characters, he proves that the other ladies…and other characters can stand alone without her.

As Lindsay goes on vacation, her partner, Rich Conklin, stumbles upon a case of two dead bodies found in a hotel room. The book starts off with Conklin speaking to a woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. In just a few short chapters, readers realize that one of the bodies has come back from the dead…literally and no this is not a Sci-Fi book. It’s a crime thriller. The dead body made it all the way to the morgue before anyone realized she was alive after all. When the woman resurfaces, Conklin is at a loss of words. Not ever having this type of advantage (life after death) Conklin, does everything in his power to find out why someone would want her dead. Some things don’t add up. However, it looks like a classic whodunit when the supposed killer is found dead.

Meanwhile, two of Lindsay’s friends come together to solve this case while Conklin is trying to keep a woman from becoming another dead body.

I gave this book five stars. I enjoyed it. I love Bookshots and I love these characters. Great read while we wait for book number seventeen to release…next year! I don’t know why James Patterson does us this way. (sad face)

Book Review: Right Behind You

Hello Page Turners!

61GCSgQ+5bL._SX329_BO1,204,203,200_So today I bring you a review from author Lisa Gardner. I am a huge fan of her work. I’ve read her DD Warren series and her FBI Profiler series. Right Behind You is her latest book and it did not disappoint.

Right Behind You is from the FBI Profiler series that follows FBI Profiler Quincy Pearce and his wife Raine as they work to protect their soon to be adopted daughter, Sharlah. Sharlah comes from a dark past. A drunken mother and father forces Telly to raise his baby sister as best as he can. One night Telly is forced to protect his sister when his father kills their mother and then tries to kill his children. Telly beats his father to death with a bat. Sharlah and her brother are quickly split up and placed into foster care. While Sharlah ends up in the hands of Quincy and Raine, Telly, bounces from home to home trying to find his place.

Sheriff Atkins of Bakersville finds herself dealing with a double homicide and a killing at a gas station. When both cases come together it seems like killer is none other than Telly, Sharlah’s brother and the victims are his foster parents. The case becomes twisted as spottings of Telly force the detectives to believe that Telly is armed and dangerous, that he killed his foster parents and the people at the gas station. But for some reason Telly is coming after Sharlah. To protect her or kill her? No one knows. But as the book progresses the twists from Sharlah and Telly’s past begin to unravel and Sheriff Atkins, Quincy, Raine and their team hunt what they believe is a is a young boy with one thing on his mind, revenge.

One thing about Lisa Gardner her books are filled with twists. There is never a story that is told from A-Z. If you don’t pay attention, you will get lost. She has the ability to drop little hints throughout the story that make you think. She also takes her time in placing readers in the mind of the character. Her stories are so well told that you believe you are walking right there with the character and experiencing it.

From the minute I started reading this book, I knew it would be good. I love Quincy and Raine. I love their history and their connection. This series has about nine or ten books in it. So it’s important to read the series from the beginning. However, this book could easily stand alone.

Lisa also gives us a glimpse into the characters past to explain how the character got to a particular point in the book. I especially liked Sharlah. She’s been through so much in her young life yet she’s strong and brave. She was right there in the middle of the investigation hunting her brother. I rated this book four stars. If you love psychological thrillers, this one is for you! Don’t sleep on Lisa Gardner. Her books are page turners!

Book Review: Deeper Than Dead

Hello Page Turners!

This book was amazing!

IMG_1798This was my first book by Tami Hoag. I’d seen her books in stores plenty of times but never picked her up. My Book Buddy (Yes I have a book buddy. Don’t judge) told me about this book and I immediately downloaded it and read it. This was another great page turner and another author that I am eager to get into.

Deeper than Dead starts out with four children finding a dead body. The story takes place in 1985 in the small town of Oak Knoll, California. A teacher, Ms. Navarre, is the only person throughout this story that tries to protect the children from this crazy ordeal that they have stumbled upon.

The serial killer, who they call, See No Evil, glues his victims mouth, eyes and ears shut and then buries them to be found by others. The towns sheriff’s department is having a hard time finding out who this killer is. However, when you find out who it is, you won’t see it coming! It seems that he is targeting women from a group home that supports battered women.

In this story we meet the families of the four children and Ms. Navarre. An FBI agent is brought in to assist with this case.

Now, I know you are thinking, this book is based in 1985? No way am I going to enjoy this. Oh but you will. You as the reader will forget that this book is based in 1985 from the way the author writes it. There are small details in the book that will remind you that this is a book based in 1985 but it will not discourage you. Tami Hoag does an excellent job bringing you a well-written fast paced story that makes you fall in love with the children, wonder about the adults and think everyone is a killer. I was intrigued myself when I found out this story was based in 1985 but the author didn’t disappoint. This is a classic whodunit crime novel that I believe lovers of this genre will enjoy. I definitely recommend readers getting into this author.

I give this book five stars!

I’ve been reading some great books lately. Recommend your book to me!

Book Review: The Good Girl

Hello Page Turners!

51vd+yq8uDL._SX330_BO1,204,203,200_So last week I told you that I was finishing up this book. I was so excited about it from beginning to end but I did have some reservations about it.

So The Good Girl is about Mia Dennett, the daughter of a prestigious judge. She is kidnapped after leaving a bar. Now there aren’t too many family secrets in this book however, we know that every family has its drama and the Dennetts do not disappoint. The book is written from the point of view of Eve, Mia’s mother, Gabe, the detective and Colin, her kidnapper. Like I said last week, the book is written from beginning to end, however  the story comes together in the middle of the story at the end. I hope that makes sense. Just a few pages into the book we learn that Mia comes home safely. Now the story isn’t about finding out if Mia comes home but how she comes home.

I think the author did an amazing job in her storytelling and the flow of this book.  I haven’t read too many books that are written this way and I really loved it. I thought there were some dry points in the book that made me wish the author would get back to the story however, it did not take away from the flow. Each character was relatable. I felt like I was walking in their shoes as I read the book. So the author did an amazing job on developing these characters.

Now, when you get to the middle and end of the book, you will see some things come at you from the left. There are some twists and turns I did not see coming. So get ready.

I have to say, I really enjoyed this book and I  look forward to reading more from the author. I give this book five stars!

Book Review: Descendants

Hello Page Turners,

51k2U3sOtOL._SX342_BO1,204,203,200_My daughter is a reader! She doesn’t read as much as me however, she does love a good book and of course she’s a fan of James Patterson. Recently she finished a book. I asked her to write a review for the book and send it to me. This is what she read and wrote. If you have young children, please encourage your child to read this book. She obviously enjoyed it!

The book is about four villain kids going to the Auradon. Maleficent wanted the villain kids to get the Fairy god mother wand for revenge. The Isle of the lost is covered with a magical barrier. I wasn’t a big fan of all of the villain kids (Mal,Evie,Carlos,Jay). My favorite of the four is Carlos. The reason why he is my favorite is because in the story he meets a dog and is in love with the dog. I recommend this book to mostly kids. It is enjoyable and fun. I rated this book five stars because it was an exciting and interesting book.

Book Review: Fervent

Hello Page Turners!

So I wanted to switch it up a little bit. 41Y4TeW94xL

I read this book a while back. I like to read one inspirational book at a time throughout the year so that I can really get the information and meditate on it.

Fervent is written by Priscilla Shirer who is also the leading female character in the movie War Room. I read all of the books before I saw the movie of course. Any REAL reader knows to read the books first before indulging in the movie.

Fervent is a woman’s battle plan through many of the tough obstacles we go through. It talks about how to fight the enemy, getting yourself back, knowing your calling, to stop worrying and so much more. It is filled with simple biblical teachings that we as women can learn to tackle each day. I thought this book was amazing. I read one chapter a day. Like I said I like to really take my time and get the information.

I rated this book four stars.

Make sure you download it today and add it to your collection!

Book Review: The Marriage Lie

Hello Page Turners,

Moment of silence for The Marriage Lie.

My goodness this book had me on edge. This is one of those books that make you think, take away all of your time; you literally have no life outside of these books…I LOVE IT!

The marriage lie follows a wife who believes her husband is killed in a plane crash. When she tries to figure out if her husband was indeed on the plane that crashed with no survivors, she learns a secret or two. Her husband was not on the plane he was supposed to be on. He did not have reservations at the hotel he claimed he’d be staying in and there was no convention that he was going to. Lies!

As Iris, tries to find the truth, she is haunted with the very real thought that her marriage was a lie. This book displays the hurdles a man goes through to keep his secrets as bay.
